What is IV Ketamine therapy?

We use IV Ketamine Therapy as part of an integrative approach to your health and wellness; we look at you as a whole person, including your mental, physical, and overall general health to tailor the right plan for you. We’ll understand your health goals and ensure that our treatment plan moves towards those goals.

This groundbreaking treatment is an effective therapy for people who suffer from psychological and physical issues such as: PTSD, treatment resistant depression, anxiety, chronic pain, trigeminal neuralgia, migraines, complex regional pain syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, post herpetic neuralgia. If you haven’t responded to traditional methods of treatment for these ailments, there’s hope for you - you may respond well to IV Ketamine even if you have previously been resistant to other treatments. In fact, research from Mass General Hospital discovered that 70% of treatment-resistant patients had a positive response to Ketamine therapy.

How does IV Ketamine therapy work?

Our trained Doctors deliver the IV infusion treatment in our controlled medical setting. As an FDA-approved anesthetic, ketamine is used in the correct dosage in order to treat psychiatric or pain disorders based on your body type and weight. Then, we’ll release a small dosage of the drug at a slow, controlled rate, leaving the patient with little to no side effects.

By stimulating the growth of brain neurons in as little as an hour, ketamine has incredible anti-inflammatory properties and works in about 80% of patients. Patients also report improved mood from the neural activation.

I recently finished my rounds of Ketamine infusions at this clinic and had a wonderful experience. I’ve tried various different treatment options for over 5 years and this has been the most, if not only effective medical treatment I’ve had for depression. The clinic is clean, comfortable, and everyone is very nice. And you have access to therapists, and other doctors in the same practice. The whole process was carefully guided and informative, and though the treatment seems intimidating, the whole experience is comforting and I started to see results very very quickly. Plus, this is by far the cheapest option I’ve found for ketamine infusions and I would not have been able to get the treatment at all had this clinic not offered it for hundreds of dollars less than most others. I would highly recommend Balance both for the price and how incredibly effective the ketamine was for my depression. My family noticed a dramatic difference even before I had after the first infusion.

WHO CAN KETAMINE HELP?

01 — Those who suffer from PTSD

In PTSD, there is mounting evidence for a role of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate in stress responsiveness, the formation of traumatic memories, and the pathophysiology of PTSD. Double-blind study demonstrated that infusion of ketamine rapidly and significantly reduces symptom severity in patients with PTSD compared with midazolam.

02 — Those who struggle with anxiety

Ketamine has been studied and shown to be effective with an array of anxiety disorders, including general anxiety disorder (GAD) and relief is immediate rather than the 6-12 weeks normally required for chance of relief with traditional SSRI’s.

03 — Those who deal with depression

While traditional antidepressants take several weeks, if not months, to offer any relief from depression, within just hours of an infusion, IV Ketamine has been proven effective for symptoms of depression. Researcher Elizabeth Ballard, PhD. of the National Institute of Mental Health, notably published a study that found Ketamine to “reduce suicidal thoughts independent of its effect on depression or anxiety.”

04 — Those consumed by chronic pain

Ketamine is used to treat various chronic pain syndromes, especially those that have a neuropathic component like trigeminal neuralgia, migraines, complex regional pain syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, post herpetic neuralgia. Low dose ketamine produces strong analgesia in neuropathic pain states, presumably by inhibition of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor although other mechanisms are possibly involved, including enhancement of descending inhibition and anti-inflammatory effects at central sites.

05 — Those living with fibromyalgia

Recently, there has been new research illuminating how ketamine infusions have been beneficial for the treatment of fibromyalgia. In one study, treatment with ketamine reduced patient’s pain by 50% in more than half of the study participants. It is thought that ketamine reduces the central nervous system sensitization associated with increased pain in fibromyalgia. Ketamine also reduces the activity of glutamate, the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain.

FAQ

How long does it take?

When used in a controlled medical environment in low doses, patients receive the ketamine through an IV infusion treatment and feel little to no side effects. The therapy generally takes an hour, and you’ll be very comfortable in our office. We’ll develop an individualized treatment plan, but generally IV Ketamine infusions include 6 infusions over a two week timeframe. There will be infusions that are administered thereafter depending on your specific needs.

Are there side effects?

The effects of ketamine are felt quickly; you’ll be aware of your surroundings yet won’t be able to carry on with daily functions, like having a normal conversation or standing up. You may experience feeling confused, dizzy, or nauseous. More often, patients have little to no side effective, and any effects will quickly subside. You’ll need someone to drive you home after the treatment

How will I react?

Most patients experience feeling a deep relaxation and are able to let their minds relax and wander comfortable, without negative feelings or anxiety.
